Fethiye is situated in the heart of Lycia, and an ideal centre for visiting the ancient cities surrounding the town. Also Fethiye is quite close in distance to Patara and Dalyan famous for its Turtle’s Beach. You can explore for a day, or stay overnight to visit Turkey’s famous sites such as Ephesus and Pamukkale. A beautiful day out to Kas or Kalkan for those who hire a car is a must, the coastline is breathtaking..

Surrounded by the Taurus Range of mountains with their the refreshing woody slopes, grow thyme, sage, laurel and pine trees the exceptional incense forest is another peculiarity of the Fethiye region. Covering a 100-hectare area the incense forest is an ideal campsite and a picnic area. Balsam obtained from incense trees has pharmaceutical and cosmetic value and it is also used to fumigate mosques and churches.

Fethiye is located in South West Mediterranean Turkey, connected to all other cities by three highways and reached very easily. Dalaman International Airport is 50 km. From Fethiye town centre. If you are incurably addicted to exploring new horizons and are a lover of nature, this is the destination for you… the gulf of Fethiye is delightfully indented with innumerable coves and the unbelievable beauty of nature.  Fethiye was called Telmessos in ancient times.

The city was very prominent and a centre of prophecy, pledged to Apollon. That the city life was rich and highly cultured during the Hellenistic and Roman periods is evident from the existing monuments. When you go to Fethiye you will see the ancient rock tombs and the remnants of the castle built by the Knights of Telemessos.

A very short bus ride up into the Kaya valley will take you to the locally known Ghost village. The village was occupied by Greeks and Türks until  a population exchange in 1923. It has on the whole remained deserted since that time. Kaya village offers some very good restaurants and colourful locals. A very worthwhile day out.

Fethiye seaport with its sheltered natural structure is an important stop for yachtsmen. It also boasts a new modern marina project a large number of yachts find there way to the gulf, Gulets and boats for diving and fishing trips are all to be found here.
